Hilliard City Schools Changes School Calendar
Creates a Better Solution for Family Traditions and Childcare
The Hilliard City School District announced a change to the school calendar. The district will be closed on Monday, January 2, 2012. Students will return to school on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 and the school calendar will be extended by one day to June 4, 2012. This move will allow students and staff members to observe this federal holiday at home much like other area schools and businesses.
“We have received a lot of feedback related to January 2,” said Assistant Superintendent Leslie McNaughton. “Parents wanted students at home with family in observance of the federal holiday and many families were struggling to find adequate child care since many area businesses are closed that day. We wanted to listen to our constituents and find a better solution if possible.” Read More
Final Election Results Provide Stability for Hilliard City Schools
Significant cuts will not be made, but efficiencies will continue
After weeks of anticipation, the Franklin County Board of Elections certified results from the November 8 election that showed a majority of voters approving Issue 17 – a 5.9-mill operating levy that will provide the necessary day-to-day funds for staffing and programs for Hilliard City Schools over the next three years.
Today’s results mean that the more than $10.2 million in reductions previously outlined by the board will not need to be made and that Hilliard City Schools will be able to maintain the current level of programming and services to students. This includes refunding appropriate levels of fees for middle and high school winter athletes, not eliminating high school busing on January 2, 2012 and not eliminating 93 teaching and staffing positions for next school year.
